Fidem in short

Some clients come to us for accounting. Others rely on us as their finance department — and on the advice that comes with it.

Fidem is a boutique finance, tax and advisory firm in Amsterdam. Where a business needs compliance, we keep the administration accurate and the filings on time. Where it needs more, we run the daily finance operation, build the reporting around it and stay in the conversation about what the figures mean. The level of involvement changes with the business; the people do not.

Doing business in the Netherlands

Your local finance and tax partner in the Netherlands.

International entrepreneurs, foreign-owned companies and international groups come to Fidem at different moments — some while they are still considering the Netherlands, others once a Dutch entity is already running. We take on the finance and tax side locally, and coordinate with notaries, lawyers and other specialists where the situation requires it.

The result is one point of contact in Amsterdam for registrations, VAT, corporate income tax, payroll, the 30% ruling, annual accounts, group reporting and the ongoing finance administration.

    Entering the Netherlands

Before anything is registered, we go through what the Dutch structure means financially — and coordinate with a notary, lawyer or other specialist where that is required.

  2. 02

Setting up the company and finance function

Tax registrations, VAT position, payroll and the 30% ruling, together with an administration and system set-up the business can actually work in.

  3. 03

    Accounting & tax compliance

Bookkeeping, VAT and ICP, corporate income tax, wage tax and the annual accounts — filed on the Dutch calendar, tracked locally.

  4. 04

    Reporting & control

Monthly figures for local management and a reporting pack in the group's own format, with intercompany positions reconciled.

  5. 05

    Advisory & growth

As the Dutch operation grows: financing, structuring, cash-flow, hiring decisions and the tax questions that follow.

Case — International company entering the Netherlands

A Dutch entity, organised financially from the first month.

A foreign-owned business decided to open in the Netherlands and had no local finance or tax presence. The commercial plan was clear; the Dutch side of it was not.

Challenge
Establishing operations locally while the group had no view of Dutch registrations, filing obligations or employer requirements.
Fidem support
Financial setup of the entity, Dutch tax registrations, VAT, corporate income tax, payroll, annual accounts and reporting — with the notary and other Dutch specialists coordinated alongside.
Result
One local finance and tax partner, and a clear structure for the ongoing Dutch operation.

Outsourced finance

Your finance department, without building one in-house.

Fidem can manage part of the finance function or all of it. For most clients that begins with the daily administration — bookkeeping, invoicing, payables, receivables, payments and reconciliations — and grows into payroll coordination, reporting and cash-flow as the business does.

Nothing changes hands twice: the people who process the transactions are the people who explain the month. Support is arranged in flexible levels rather than fixed packages, and it moves with the business.

Advisory

We do not only report what happened. We help clients understand what the numbers mean and what to do next.

Bookkeeping describes the past. The value sits in the layer above it: why margin moved, where cash will be in three months, what a hire or an investment does to the plan, and which parts of the operation need attention now. That work is done by the same senior people who know the file.

Financial & tax advisory

Corporate tax, VAT and financing questions answered in the context of the business, not in isolation.

Planning and forecasting

Budgets, forecasts and cash-flow planning that show what the coming quarters are likely to look like.

Performance and control

Profitability and margin analysis, KPI reporting and the financial controls that keep the operation reliable.

Controller and CFO support

Senior finance capacity for structuring, process improvement, growth or change — including conversations with banks and auditors.

Selected cases

Anonymised situations from our work. Named client cases are published only with consent.

International trading company

Control over high-value flows, and reporting that keeps up with them.

Purchase and sales flows ran through several counterparties and currencies. The administration followed the transactions rather than staying ahead of them.

Challenge
Complex purchase and sales flows, international VAT treatment, high-value transactions and increasing reporting requirements.
Fidem support
Accounting, VAT, transaction and payment reconciliation, cash-flow monitoring, management reporting and audit preparation.
Result
Better control over the finance operation and clearer reporting to management.

Growing Dutch SME

From an administration that works to figures management can act on.

The bookkeeping was in order, but the year-end accounts were the first real look at performance — long after the decisions had been taken.

Challenge
Limited insight into profitability, cash-flow and expected performance during the year.
Fidem support
Monthly reporting, cash-flow analysis, budgeting, forecasting and controller support alongside the director.
Result
Decisions are taken on current financial information instead of waiting for the year-end accounts.

Foreign-owned Dutch BV

Local compliance and group reporting through one finance partner.

Headquarters abroad needed the Dutch entity to be correct locally and legible in the group format, without adding an internal finance role in Amsterdam.

Challenge
Reliable Dutch accounting, tax compliance and group reporting, managed from another country.
Fidem support
Dutch accounting, tax compliance, payroll, group reporting, intercompany reconciliation and direct communication with headquarters.
Result
Local compliance and international reporting handled through one finance partner.

The firm

Senior attention. Short lines. Long-term relationships.

Fidem is deliberately small. The person you speak with knows your file, answers directly and stays with your business as it changes. Work is handled by experienced finance and tax professionals, supported by digital processes rather than replaced by them. Correspondence in English, Dutch or Polish.
